Information  on  Herps  of  Florida

The CHS does not maintain its own resource site for our local herps yet, but you can find much good information at these linked websites:

Venomous Snakes of Florida & Snakebite First Aid  All about the 6 species of venomous snakes native to Florida, a fact-filled site by past CHS speaker Greg Longhurst.

Venomous Snakes of Florida  -  Another excellent site with great info and pictures of Florida's six venomous species of snakes.  By D. Bruce Means, Ph.D.

Guide to Venomous Snakes of Florida  -  One more on our state's 6 dangerous snakes by the Florida Museum of Natural History (see below).

Well, you'd think that all we think about around here is venomous snakes, based on the first three listings.  Such is definitely not the case, but we feel it's our duty to put them first since the info they contain may be needed urgently.

Florida Museum of Natural History  -  This is the herpetology section of FMNH, with many interesting and informative subsites / links to what's happening herpetologically in Florida.

Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission ("Florida Fish & Game")  -  The main page of Florida's wildlife regulatory agency.  This will let you research rules pertaining to keeping / selling / catching herps in the state.

Florida's Exotic Wildlife (Herps) -   Keeps track of exotic herps that have, or may soon establish themselves as breeding populations in Florida.  This website is maintained by past speaker Kevin Enge and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.
