Tonight's speaker is Curt Harbsmeier. His program will focus on crocodilians and their regulation through CITES, the ESA, the Lacey Act, state regs in Florida, and local statutes and ordinances.  We will discuss the legal requirements and physical needs for captive maintenance, purchase and sale, and transport of crocodilians.

Curt Harbsmeier is an attorney in central Florida with a lifelong passion for wildlife and conservation.  He has worked with captive crocodilians and other herps for over 30 years.  He is an Executive Board Member of Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo and is involved in numerous conservation organizations and activities.  Curt is also currently the Vice Chairman, Legal Affairs, Steering Committee, of the IUCN-SSC Crocodile Specialist Group.

Do you want to talk herps for another hour or two after the meeting? Don't forget to come out to Stevie Tomatoes (a sports bar and grill) on Daniels Blvd and I-75 after the meeting, for food and plenty of informal herp talk with the speaker and other meeting attendees.

Herp-of-the-month: Mangrove salt marsh snake (Nerodia clarkii compressicauda) There will be a 10 minute talk about this species before the speaker begins.

WHO'S INVITED ? You are! Anyone with an interest in any aspect of herpetology or herpetoculture is welcome to attend, learn, and exchange their experiences with our friendly membership. Come out to meet others who keep, breed or study reptiles and amphibians, and let them share their fascination with you. We average 20 – 35 people attending every meeting.
